The question of mans origins
The question of mans origins has been on the minds of scientists, priests and scholars for a long time. From the pillars of Ancient Greece to the hallowed halls of science speculation has spanned the ages. In more recent times the theories of Charles Darwin drastically transformed our view of reality. The problem, however, which even Darwin was forced to admit was that at the time his theory was promulgated there was little fossil evidence for applying the evolutionary thesis he has discovered (micro-evolution) to man and his ancestry (macro-evolution). As time has progressed the evidence which scientists all believed would appear simply has not arrived. While there are mountains of fossils proving evolution within species, there is little or no real evidence for trans-species development. While we can see, for example, horses changing and developing their shape and form, there is no evidence for fish becoming birds or other moving which denote macro-evolution. At the same time science as a whole tends to manipulate the evidence, using peer pressure and collective ridicule evidence that does not fit the prevailing evolutionary paradigm is ignored, suppressed or simply filed away "for later evidence". Forbidden Archaeology : The Hidden History of the Human Race by Cremo and Thompson, (Torchlight Publishing, 1994) offers a literal encyclopaedic of such information, citing so many examples that it is difficult to come away with any faith in evolutionary theory, never mind the so-called scientific method.
Creationism however does not fair much better. While creationists have lots of negative evidence, evidence which challenges evolution, when it comes to proof of the creationist thesis they all return to that humbug of intellect - faith. Creationists relies on that amazing intellectual circle where the Bible proves faith and you have faith to prove the Bible. While such circular logic may be useful within the monastery or Church it offers little for the modern seeker of origins. Creationism can offer prove of sudden appearances of species, which not only debunks the evolutionary model but asks the simple question, if mans appearance was sudden and he appeared all at once (with little evolutionary modification), then who or what did the creating ? While religion may suggest that "God" of whatever shade did it, the nature of the creation process really suggests otherwise.
Lloyd Pye (www.llloydpye.com) has written a superb volume which introduces us to the evidence which dismantles both the evolutionary and creationist models. "Everything you know is wrong" raises important questions which cannot be answered by the current paradigms. These questions range from fossil evidence to genetics, biological to history. Pye carries on from where Sitchin leaves off. Zecharia Sitchin outlined in his series of volumes (The 12th Planet, The Stairway to Heaven, The Wars of Gods and Men, The Lost Realms, Genesis Revisited, When Time Began, Divine Encounters- Bear and Company - Paperbacks from Avon Books) offer a complex theory regarding mans origins, he decoded a range of Sumerian scripts to suggest that man is a hybrid, a genetically engineered form, created by an alien race originally as a slave species.
Pye continues on from Sitchin and developed the evidence handed down to us from the Sumerians bringing it together with an exhaustive knowledge of science, anthropology, fossil evidence and biology..
The thesis which Pye and Sitchin expound is that what the Sumerians knew was communicated to them by a race of superior beings whom they called “gods.” Those “gods” came to work on Earth from another planet in our solar system, a planet with an elliptical, 3600-year orbit that carries it from a perihelion between Mars and the inner edge of the Asteroid Belt to an aphelion well beyond the orbit of Pluto, in the deepest reaches of space.
The Sumerian tablets further contend that the “Anunnaki,” the formal name for the “gods” from the planet “Nibiru,” came to live on Earth over 400,000 years ago because they needed gold to repair their atmosphere, which they had damaged during their rise to a high technology. Because mining gold is such difficult work, at around 250,000 years ago the Anunnaki genetically engineered humans to be their slaves.
This thesis while explosive is the only one which seems to resolve the contradictions between the evolutionary and creationist models, it is one which transforms our view of religion and theology. If the Gods are slave-masters, then our received traditions, including the Old Testament, are texts of domination rather than liberation. This is where things get even more intriguing. Stichin as an Orthodox Jew tends to have a bit more time for Yahweh than many other authors in this field. Indeed, his focus on Sumeria tends to ignore the more explosive possibilities in regards to the Old Testament.
The Gnostic paradigm that is outlined in Mandean and Manichean literature gives credence to his view, while at the same time rejected outright the Old Testament and Yahweh. This position, as Yahweh being just another destructive Archon or alien warlord, which distasteful to some correlates well with the evidence. Indeed the Manichean description of creation with its copulating demons and mix of technology and sexual fluids is a very ancient yet in some ways so modern outline of the genetic engineering process.
The question then must arise as to the ramifications of the theory and this is explored within a new book by Neil Freer called God Games. Freer was the author of Breaking the Godspell where he began to explore the psychological impact of this new paradimg. While Sitchin has outlined what happened to humankind in the ancient past, Freer outlines the implications for the future and the conditioning we have carried with us into the present. If we are a genetically-engineered race with both animal and "divine" components then there is a conflict which must be resolved. Freer offers us a vision of what is in store based on the current state of humanity and considers the explosive ramifications of this hybrid creation called man.
God Games by Neil Freer is published by The Book Tree (www.thebooktree.com)
Another exploration of our hybrid past is Past Shock by Jack Barranger. Some thirty years ago, Alvin Toffler coined the term "future shock" a syndrome in which people are overwhelmed by the future. Past Shock suggests that events which happened many thousands of years ago are conditioning and manipulating our lives today. Our hybrid past is now coming how to roost. The effect of our genetic engineering was not only physical, but also psychological and spiritual and Barranger re-examines the Old Testament, without by of the "sensitivity" of other authors in the field, and exposes the Old testament God for the Archonic warlord he is. Barranger considers the Old Testament myths of creation, the tower of Babel and beyond and mercilessly brings us to confront our past and future.
Past Shock by Jack Barranger is published by The Book Tree (www.thebooktree.com)
While this paradigm may seem confronting it is one which reconciles the differences between the evolutionary and creationist models and more, fits the evidence. It is not a new model, indeed the ancient Gnostics with their dualist vision were the first to suggest the hybrid nature of man, it is just that only with the advent of science and modern genetics have we been able to see the truth of their vision.
The Book Tree also has a good range of background texts on Sitchin, the Hybrid hypothesis and related authors, these include:
