FLYING OINTMENT RECIPE
What you will need:
4 cups base: Beeswax, Cocoa Butter, or Lanolin
5 droppers full of Flower Essences: California Poppy, Chamomile, Lotus, Rose
A handful or so of the following herbs: Dittany of Crete, Hemp, (optional) Hops, Lavender, Linden, Skullcap, Wild Lettuce
15 to 20 drops of Essential Oils: Clary Sage, Jasmine, Mugwort, Sandalwood
A pinch of raw opium (optional)
5 to 7 drops of Tincture of Benzoin (a preservative)
In a non-metal double broiler [sp? sic] pot, melt base slowly over low heat. Introduce herbs into warm base and cook carefully over very low flame, stirring continuously for 30 minutes. Strain out herbs, put base back in pot, take off heat. Wait 25-30 seconds and stir in flower essences, essential oils, and tincture of benzoin. Pour into heat proof jars, let cool. To store, close jar tightly and keep in refrigerator, or a cool, dark place.
When getting ready to use ointment, avoid caffeine before applying as it will counteract effects. Do not use the ointment lightly, *treat it with respect*. Apply a thin coat to inside of wrist, wait one I/2 [sic] hour for effect before applying on throat or temple. AVOID mucus membranes (inside of nose, mouth or other moist places). Do not use this ointment if you are pregnant, have high blood pressure, or notice an allergic reaction on the skin after first application.
[There's a bibliography and a bunch of plant diagrams, but I'm not about to reproduce them here.
