Acacia Gum: Alkanna Tinctoria Root Extract Also know as gum Arabic. It is derived from the acacia tree and is widely used in the food and confectionery industry. In cosmetics it is used to stabilize emulsions and improve texture. It may also be used as a fixative and base when making incense.
Alkanet Root: A natural colorant derived from alkanet root infused in oil. Purple to Pink.

Sweet Almond Oil: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil The aroma of sweet almond oil is mild and the oil is protein rich and nourishing for the skin. It contains vitamins A, B1, B2, and B2 as well as a small amount of vitamin E. Sweet almond oil is popular for massage and skin care because it has a long shelf life and will blend very well with other carrier oils. A favorite for oil for aromatherapy or used on it's own for moisturizing the skin. It's known to be especially suitable for eczema and dry itchy skin. Lubricating but not very penetrating. For soap making add 1 ounce per lb. of fats. This oils goes rancid quickly. Sweet Almond Oil is often used for superfatting soaps. It is a great moisturizer, makes a stable lather and helps condition the skin. Add 1 ounce per pound of fats to your soap batch at trace. This is one of the most useful, practical and commonly used oils. It is great for all skin types as an emollient and is best known for its ability to soften, soothe, and re-condition the skin. Apricot Kernel Oil: Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil This oil is often more expensive than sweet almond oil, but it has similar actions. Often a key ingredient in facial tonics and cosmetics, this oil treats mature and sensitive skins successfully. This is a light, rich oil, especially good for sensitive skin. Used alone or in massage. It is often found in lip balms and creams. High in Vitamin A. For soapmaking, use 1-2 ounces per lb. Of fat. Creates a stable lather and is a good conditioner. This oil is similar to Almond oil except for a higher unsaturated fatty acid content. It makes lip balm feel soft and spreadable. Iodine value 92-108

Avocado Oil: Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil A nourishing, rich, and heavy oil that is often blended with other cold-pressed oils for increased penetration. Avocado is often found in facial preparations because it is an effective treatment for dry and dehydrated skin. The unrefined oil is green in color and contains vitamins A, B1, B2, and E as well as lecithin. This oil also has a mild sunscreen. This rich New Zealand oil nourishes and restores dry dehydrated skin. It has a natural avocado color that is imparted to the products it is used in. This heavy oil is best blended with other oils for massage. It is high in unsaponifiables. Try it in a gentle baby soap. Use up to 30% as base oil. Stable lather, high conditioner. Iodine value 80-95

Has many therapeutic benefits and is known to successfully heal a variety of types of skin damage. (burns,wounds,dry skin) To superfat soap use 1 2/3 tablesthingys per 5 lbs of soap at trace or use up to 20% added to other oils at the beginning of the soap making process.
Canola Oil
Canola oil is a good moisturizer but is less saturated than other fats, so it can be slow to saponify. Use it in place of more expensive oils like olive. Needs to be mixed with other saturated fats in order to speed up saponification. Use as a base oil up to 50%. Iodine value of 105-120

Carrot Oil - Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Seed Oil Carrot oil is rich in beta-carotene, vitamins B, C, D, and E, and essential fatty acids. This oil also has an anti-inflammatory action, which makes it a useful treatment for burns. Carrot is often used as an anti-aging treatment and is commonly found in skin creams. This oil can be too strong to be used on its own, but blended with olive and almond, carrot can be beneficial in facial blends. Carrot oil is generally hard to find and very expensive. Great for cuticle creams.
Castor Oil Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil
Castor oil is often used to superfat. It attracts and holds moisture in the skin. Use it in combination with other vegetable oils to produce a nice hard bar of soap. You can add a bit at trace for superfatting or add it to other oils at a rate of no more than 30% in the beginning of the soapmaking process. A very moisturizing and lubricating oil that is rich in fatty acids. It acts as a humectant attracting moisture from the air to the skin. Ayurvedic medicine has long used castor oil for lumbago, sciatica and rheumatism. In soap making it is a well-known super fatting agent. It is well suited for baby products. One of the few oils soluble in alcohol. A natural source oil from the Castor bean. A hard, shiny oil that acts as a barrier agent and protective medium against harsh conditions and extremes. High lather. Iodine 82-92

Cocoa Butter Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter
Cocoa butter is used to make soaps harder. When used in soap as a superfatting oil it acts to lay down a protective layer which holds the moisture to the skin, so it is an excellent skin softener. It has a natural chocolate scent but it is also available in unscented versions. You can use it from anywhere about 1 ounce to a pound at trace, to 15% of your total base oils, depending on your preference. This butter is prime pressed with no solvents used for extraction. A good oil for lotions, balms, and soap making. It will give firmness and emollience to lotions, massage bars and lip balms. From the seed of the Cacao Tree, has a distinguished scent of chocolate. This butter is used as an emulsifier in bath and body essentials. Cocoa butter is known to stay on the surface of the skin to help protect the skin and lock in moisture, making this a great product for creams, salves, lip balms, soaps, lotion bars, massage creams and sun care products. Some people are allergic to it. Hard bar, stable lather, high conditioning. Iodine 33-45

Coconut Oil - Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil Coconut oil is highly saturated, which means it will remain stable for a long time, making it a useful ingredient in cosmetic preparations. This doesn’t even look like oil, like you would think of oil. This is a solid oil. Coconut oil makes soaps lather beautifully but can be drying when it makes up a large portion of your soap's fats. It will make a very hard, white bar of soap with abundant lather. It even lathers in very hard water or even sea water. Coconut oil is a saturated fat. Use it at a percentage of no more than 20-30% in your base oils. Comes in 76 and 92 degree versions, this is more or less a melting point. 92 is harder at room temp and can make a harder bar of soap. 76 is great for lotions that you don’t want too thick. High lather. Iodine 5-10

Also referred to as dry oil perfume base. Gives a feel of dry oil. Can be used in most skin care formulations. Use in body spray straight with fo or eo. Has detangling properties and adds a silky feel to hair care formulations.

Dimethicone (Dow Corning 300): A non-toxic, non-sensitizing, non- irritating oil soluble fluid used to enhance the feel and slip of lotions and creams. In hair conditioners it adds shine. Hazelnut Oil - Corylus Americana (Hazel) Seed Oil Good for slightly oily skins, hazelnut is mildly astringent and will penetrate easily. This oil stimulates circulation, making it very good for muscular problems. This pale amber oil has a pleasant aroma. It's composition is similar to Sweet Almond Oil for which it's often substituted. This is the only fixed nut oil with an astringent quality making it beneficial for oily skin. Hazelnut oil is slow to saponify. Hazelnut is an excellent moisturizer for soaps. It is low in saturated fatty acids, so use other more saturated fats to lessen your trace time and yield a harder bar. Recommended maximum usage - 20% of total oils. Iodine value 90-103

Hempseed Oil
Hempseed oil is not as stable as some other oils and can spoil quickly. It creates a silky bar of soap even if it is only used to superfat your batch. It is a less saturated fat, and since it is prone to spoilage, keep it as a small percentage of your mix to avoid having a soft, squishy soap that may spoil in a few months. Usage - As a Superfatting at 5% at trace or Base oil at 20-30% but no more than 40%. This rich oil is high in essential omega fatty acids and proteins. This oil has a pleasant nutty smell and absorbs well into the skin. Its richness in nutrients makes this oil a great base for lip balm due to its healing and regenerative ingredients. In cosmetic use, such as in lip balm, THC has been removed from this oil. Iodine value 160-170

Hazelnut Oil - Corylus Americana (Hazel) Seed Oil Good for slightly oily skins, hazelnut is mildly astringent and will penetrate easily. This oil stimulates circulation, making it very good for muscular problems. This pale amber oil has a pleasant aroma. It's composition is similar to Sweet Almond Oil for which it's often substituted. This is the only fixed nut oil with an astringent quality making it beneficial for oily skin. Hazelnut oil is slow to saponify. Hazelnut is an excellent moisturizer for soaps. Hempseed Oil
Hempseed oil is not as stable as some other oils and can spoil quickly. It creates a silky bar of soap even if it is only used to superfat your batch. It is a less saturated fat, and since it is prone to spoilage, keep it as a small percentage of your mix to avoid having a soft, squishy soap that may spoil in a few months. Usage - As a Superfatting at 5% at trace or Base oil at 20-30% but no more than 40%. This rich oil is high in essential omega fatty acids and proteins. This oil has a pleasant nutty smell and absorbs well into the skin. Its richness in nutrients makes this oil a great base for lip balm due to its healing and regenerative ingredients.
